Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question about our choirs? We hope we answered it below, but if not feel free to send us an email at admin@modernsoundcollective.ca
Where are rehearsals happening
Datsuzoku and Frisson rehearse on Wednesday evenings at St. Mary Magdalene Church. 477 Manning Ave, Toronto, ON M6G 2V8.
MSC-ACP rehearses on Thursday evenings at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Holy Protection. 30 Leeds St, Toronto, ON M6G 3R8.
What is the structure of rehearsals?
Rehearsals start promptly at 7:00pm and end at 9:30pm. Choristers should arrive 10 minutes early to find their seat and say hello to their friends.
Rehearsal begins with a vocal and physical warmup before we dive into rehearsing our repertoire. There is a 10 minute washroom and social break halfway through the rehearsal. We will sometimes have “sectional rehearsals,” where each section can go over their part with the help of a section leader.
Is there a fee to participate in the program?
Yes, there is a $300 registration fee for our fall/winter programs, and a $110 registration fee for our summer programs. If the fee is a barrier to participation, please let us know, as we have subsidies available by request
Where can I find the schedule?
Season schedules are published on our website here, and will always be available 6 weeks before the program begins.
What happens if I have to miss a rehearsal?
As a choral program designed for young adults, we understand that choristers will occasionally need to miss rehearsals for life events, work, and health/mental health reasons. If you need to miss a rehearsal, all we ask is that you let your choir representative know by email!
What repertoire are we singing?
Datsuzoku and Frisson perform contemporary choral music from around the world. Watch some of our performances from previous seasons here!
MSC-ACP performs Contemporary pop A Capella repertoire. Members will have the opportunity to solo and collaborate with smaller groups within the choir.
What commitment level is expected for Datsuzoku?
Datsuzoku is an advanced community choir experience for young adults. We aim for a high standard of excellence in performance, and enjoy performing challenging repertoire with polish and precision. Choristers are asked to commit to attending rehearsals regularly and allocating about 1 hour each week to review their music outside of rehearsal.
