PROGRAM NOTE:
Le Pont Mirabeau by Nicholas Wanstall is a setting of Guillaume Apollinaire’s famous poem of the same name. This text speaks on themes of sadness and pain that are an inevitable part of the passing of time and the experience of love. Written with short verses followed by a repeating refrain, this poem lends it’s self very well to musical settings, and has been set by various composers and songwriters over the last century. This particular setting was heavily influenced by the harmonic and melodic language of a variety of French art songs, with an emphasis on singable and satisfying vocal writing.
ORIGINAL TEXT:
Le pont Mirabeau
by Guillaume Apollinaire
